good vibrations?

I’m not sure how I feel about the beauty industry’s current obsession with vibrating implements. First, the makers of the Sonicare toothbrush brought us the Clarisonic Cleansing System.

Oprah deemed the Clarisonic one of her Favorite Things™, and the market exploded. Neutrogena released its own version called the Wave Power Cleanser.

This morning, I received an email promoting this handy new vibrating mascara from Estée Lauder.

Vibrating mascara? Why, pray tell, is this necessary? Will some helpful ad exec write some copy that explains why I can’t live without this? Of course!

Feel the buzz, as the gently vibrating LashSonic Brush™ with micro-pulse bristles works its magic, moving rapidly through lashes. Continuously separates and saturates lashes with a rapid release gel formula. Finds lashes you didn’t even know you had and coats them instantly and perfectly. Creates the ideal lash effect—maximum volume, length, curl and separation—all at once. The motion brush keeps lashes clump-free. So you can reapply several coats without heavy build-up—even refresh lashes during the day.

I’m not sure how any of this makes TurboLash different from, say, Diorshow, but whatever. The stuff’s sold out on Estée Lauder’s website, so they’re clearly on to something. What do you think? Is vibrating mascara the next big thing or just another gimmick?
